About Us
SPOOKTACULAR takes place
in our historic, 185+ year old farmhouse, built before
1822, which holds a shocking past, and a history of true
stories of ghosts and the unexplained. The house was the
mansion of the late W.C. Gist, and his wife who owned
the 750 acres, of what was known as "Happy Hills Farm".
After the death of
Mr. Gist, his 750 acre farm property
was willed to Brooke County and became Brooke Hills
Park, which is what it has been for the past 55+ years.
Each year,
our volunteers come to run the house, knowing that group
members are aware that they will be touched, ripped
through walls, locked in areas, pulled through the
ceiling, buried in caskets, etc. (Sounds hard to believe, but we do, and we
take pride in what we do.) Guided groups wander
throughout the house, taking approximately 20 or more
minutes to complete the tour. Each room of the old farm
house is a stop along the tour, and each room is a
different scene. NO TWO scenes/rooms have been used more
than once, which means that annually, Spooktacular is
always changing, and is always growing bigger each year!
The Unexplained...
For those of you who don't have a belief in ghosts,
believe us when we tell you that most of us did not
believe either... at first. It has been the many hours
spent in the house during the preparation for Spooktacular, that we have experienced the unseen
residents of the house, which include: a little girl,
the farmhand, Indians in the basement, and a number of
other specters that haunt the 185+ year old house. The
house is home to many stories that belong to the locals
in the area as well. Sightings are not a rare occurrence
in the ancient farm house, especially when customers
experience them as well.

About Reserved Tickets:
A lot of people ask why are reserved tickets cost more
than regular tickets. The answer is: When you purchase a
reserved ticket, you are being guaranteed an early
ticket number. Early ticket numbers mean less of a
waiting time to enter the house. If you would like
to reserve tickets, please contact the Brooke Hills Park
office at:
(304) 737-1236 or
www.brookehillspark.com.
About Regular Tickets:
We recommend arriving to the park early to receive an
earlier ticket number. (5:00-5:30 P.M.) It has been
known that people who purchase regular tickets are those
who enjoy the outside activities and entertainment and
may wait for hours & hours to get into the spook house.
Please note that the Spook house does not deal with
ticket sales or prices : if you have any questions,
please contact the Brooke Hills Park Office to discuss
these matters.
ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL,
NO DRUGS, NO WEAPONS, PERMITTED ON PARK PREMISES DURING

The Wait
There are activities and entertainment for the patrons
who are waiting their turn into the old House, which
help to pass the time away: The Hole in the Wall is a
chance that patrons will take as they place their hand
through a hole in the wall of the farmhouse... it's a
chance of "trick or treat", as some people receive 'Jump
to the head of the line' passes, or various other prizes.
Fortunes can be told by our talented Madame Phoenix;
give her a visit, and allow her to tell you what your
future holds. Visit the Gallows, where we
actually hang unruly patrons for our own pleasure. Watch
the fright night movies, while waiting in line. Enjoy
carnival rides (weather permitted) mini golf under the lights, and a haunted
hayride. Have your palm read and enjoy a hot and delicious cappuccino or cocoa
at the concession stand. It's not
uncommon for visitors to be dragged off from their
friends and actually buried in open graves, or dragged
into the house by our merciless monsters! (yes, we CAN
and WILL do that.)
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Spook house benefit?
The Spook house is Brooke Hills Park's major fundraiser and all proceeds from the house helps to fund the park.
Who designs and operates the Spook house each year?
The crew who designs each room, builds the rooms and does the special effects are a talented group of local people who have regular jobs, but share one common goal... to create a successful house that is top-notch with effects and scenery. The group of people who help to run the house in October are also local area youth and adults who return each year (as well as new people each year, who also have talent in acting and behind the scenes operation.) Every person who is involved with the spook house, including the design team and director are all volunteer. Our
director, John Casinellii, has taken over for Pam Barchiesi, who replaced
Madelyn Jackson five years ago, and is the person responsible for the spook house's continuance.
How many volunteers work in the house in October?
At any point, 100 volunteers can easily be used in the house at one time as actors, behind the scenes operators, etc.! They are everywhere, which makes the haunting experience so unique!
